History

In 2002 Dr Richard Howell, the then General Secretary of Evangelical Fellowship of India, shared his vision to set-up a Postgraduate Theological Institution in North India with Dr Graham Houghton, Founder Principal, SAIACS Bengaluru and his wife, Mrs Carol Houghton.

Meanwhile, North Indian Christian leaders spent enough time to discern God’s will to turn vision into reality amid India’s church growth. Equipping leaders of the growing Church with biblical knowledge for effective discipleship and leadership remains an urgent and pressing task. There is a shortage of material written from within the Indian context. There is a significant need to equip Christians with a Biblical worldview for witnessing God.

On the invitation of Dr Howell, Dr Houghton, after completing his glorious innings in establishing SAIACS, met prominent North Indian Christian leaders on 16th September 2013 and was motivated with the reality to start a theological institute. Both Dr Howell and Dr Houghton worked meticulously in creating a board in India and overseas to establish the Institute.

With the board’s help and after much prayerful deliberation and faith, classes at Caleb Institute began on 14th July 2016 at Delhi under Dr Richard Howell’s leadership as its first Principal. Later on 26th January 2019, Caleb Institute shifted to Farrukhnagar, Gurugram.

Since its inception, Caleb Institute focuses on producing a new generation of influential servant leaders for the Church and the society whose life-style is a witness to Biblical holiness.
